Sean Bissett

I joined the Structure Design team part-time in 2012 while studying for my degree in civil and environmental engineering. I joined the team full-time in 2014.

My role is to make the building and design process easier for clients. I work closely with contractors to ensure they understand the drawings and make sure each site runs smoothly.

Since joining Structure Design, I’ve worked on numerous different building types with different people. Each type of structure has its own challenges so I’ve been fortunate to get this experience under my belt. It’s really rewarding to see a tangible product at the end of each project.

If you work with me you’ll find me practical, openminded and focused. I don’t give up and find ways to save contractor grief and overall project costs. My experience on-site means I know what to look out for and how to come up with remedial details quickly.

Work highlights have included:
  • The range of work with which I’ve been involved includes seismic restoration, high-end residential buildings with complex structural design issues, industrial buildings and a pedestrian bridge – the Matakana Cycleway. Auckland Transport and the community group wanted very different things for this bridge. I came up with a concept that worked for both parties and the finished product looks great.
  • I’ve also undertaken construction monitoring for office buildings, houses and schools.

I am an avid sports fan and enjoy participating in a range of sports particularly soccer and golf. I’ve also recently taken up touch-rugby.
